Lark Rise to Candleford is an absolutely charming, fun, and interesting BBC light drama about country folk and village folk in late 1800s England. If you like period and costume dramas and - or BBC series about normal people in normal circumstances facing everyday life, you are going to love this series. Lark Rise to Candleford The Complete Season 3 features 12 episodes on 4 DVD.
Lark Rise to Candleford is based on semi-biographical novels by Flora Thompson published in the 1940's. The story is told by Laura, a young country girl from Lark Rise sent to the nearby village of Candleford to assist her cousin Dorcas who is the local postmistress.
The stories also focus on the many and varied inhabitants of Lark Rise and Candleford. Most important are Laura's parents Robert and Emma, the two ladies who own the dress shop in Candleford, Lark Rise tenant farmers and their families, the postmistress, the postman and his wife, and so on.
The Complete Season Three of Lark Rise at Candleford opens with a journalist coming to Lark Rise to tell Emma she is to inherit a great sum and he would like to write up the story for his paper. You know there is something else going on here. Like all episodes in this BBC light drama, the show opens with a voice over by Laura setting up both the story and the lesson to be learned. This may sound pedantic but it is not and is part of the series' charm.
As the series progresses so does time move on so there is growth and development in this BBC show.
Special features on Lark Rise at Candleford The Complete Season Three are Flora Thompson Lived Here, a tour of Juniper Hill where the author whose books inspired the series lived.
