Following in the footsteps of classic such as The Princess Bride, The Chronicles of Narnia, and the Harry Potter DVD series, Stardust tells the tale of a magical world and the adventures that happen within it. This is one those great fantasy movie DVDs that kind of sneaks up and surprises you.
Tristan (Charlie Cox) is an 18 year old shop boy who is madly in love with a girl named Victoria. The feeling isn’t mutual. One night, while they are drinking champagne under the night’s sky, they both watch a falling star land in the distance. Wanting to impress his true love, he promises her to go find the star and bring it back to her as a wedding gift. This marks the beginning of an adventure that will lead him to maturity, bravery and eventually to true love.
Along his journey, he is confronted by an evil witch (Michelle Pfeiffer), aided by as effeminate pirate (Robert De Niro) and is paired with the star herself (Claire Danes). Stardust is one magical adventure after another and filled with action and romance around every corner.
Stardust is of the fantasy movie DVD s I have most enjoyed watching in a while. It offers an amazing blend of great story telling and incredible special effects. The cast is also great. I especially enjoyed watching Michelle Pfeiffer as the wicked witch who gradually loses her beauty; the transformation quite amazing. Not to mention that seeing Robert De Niro act like an effeminate pirate is absolutely priceless.
Stardust will surprise you. I was not expecting to find anything amazing when I started watching this DVD, but it turned out to be one of the most entertaining films I have seen for a long time.
