Poseidon is the 2006 remake of the classic seventies disaster flick The Poseidon Adventure. Adventure was nominated for a few Oscars and won a couple. Poseidon was not and did not. Comparing the remake to the original is unfair but anyone who has seen The Poseidon Adventure cannot but do so. This version is decent enough with pretty good special effects and disaster scenes. Stuff blows up real good on Blu-ray in 1:77:1 widescren i.e. black bars.
The premise for Poseidon is a bunch of people are on a big ass cruise ship. A bigger ass wave comes out of nowhere early on and turns the ship upside down. Chances are whoever is a recognizable movie or TV star and white --Andre Braugher of Homicide is the only non-white character and he does not last long-- is part of the survivors. The rest of the movie is the survivors trying to make it to the end of the movie alive.
These include a professional poker player (Josh Lucas), Kurt Russell, his virginal daughter and her boyfriend, a cowboy type, a minority stowaway, a mom and her cute kid, and an old guy played by Richard Dreyfuss.
The rest of this disaster movie Blu-ray is an obstacle course and race against time with water, water everywhere.
One of the deaths is particularly gruesome.
